Kentucky Rebel Scum Hot Sorghum is our newest variety of KRS.
Hot Sorghum begins with the same fermented pepper blend, Cider Vinegar, and Bourbon as KRS Original, then we add real Sorghum Syrup for a sweet and spicy unique flavor. Similar to hot honey in sweetness and heat, but with so much more flavor, KRS Hot Sorghum is a sauce everyone will enjoy, even those who donβt usually do hot sauce.
KRS Hot Sorghum starts with forward sweetness, followed with a combination of the earthy, caramel like flavors of Sorghum Syrup mixed with the bourbon and bold Kentucky Rebel Scum flavor, and finishes and a mild, lingering sweet heat at the end. Hot Sorghum makes an excellent dipping sauce, our daughter eats all our stock and calls it Grown Up Nuggie Sauce.
Hot Sorghum also goes great as a finishing sauce on grilled chicken and pork. And the simple treat of a fresh buttermilk biscuit slathered with real butter and drizzled with Hot Sorghum is about as good as it gets.
During the Civil War, the South was under naval blockade by the Union, making importation of Caribbean cane sugar & molasses expensive & scarce. Southern farmers grew sorghum for syrup as an ersatz, which helped ensconce sweet sorghum in Southern food culture.
